Dear Brothers and Sisters at St. Patrick’s,
“So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God; for whoever enters God’s rest also ceases from his labors as God did from his… Let us therefore strive to enter that rest…” Hebrews 4:8-11
On October 25, 2021, I will celebrate thirty one years of diaconal ministry. Lately, I have been reflecting on the Sabbath, on what it means to rest in God. There is a precedent for setting aside a seventh of our time for Sabbath rest. It is not just to set aside one day a week; but also at other times to rest.
I write this letter to inform you that I will be engaging in Sabbath rest by taking a leave of absence from St. Patrick’s for personal reasons for an undetermined period of time. It will begin on October 1, 2021.
During this time, I will continue to hold you all in prayer, as I hope you will hold me.
“So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation.” Genesis 2:3
