Third Sunday in Advent

Helping our Neighbors Far and Near

Outreach Advent Project

Uthando South Africa is a registered Non-Profit Organization based in Cape Town. Founded in 2007, the organization raises funds for a broad range of community-based projects which support the most vulnerable sectors of society in some of the most destitute areas of the city.

I will be traveling to Cape Town and will be delivering school supplies shown below. There will be a small suitcase under the tree in the church to put items in. This will be the only suitcase, with supplies, I’ll be taking with me. The Outreach Committee has approved this as one of their two Advent Projects for 2019. .Thank you for your support.  Sincerely yours, Jane Harburger and Outreach Committee

School supplies needed:

 Pencils…Pens…Crayons (Crayola)…Colored Pencils…Washable Markers (Crayola)…Erasers…Pencil Sharpeners (individual, small)

But Wait…there’s more. For our local project, we will be assisting Dignity First, a new non profit started by Jamie Beck, one of our St. Pat’s members. Check out the tree in the Sanctuary. On this tree you will find gift cards in differing dollar amounts which represent
what that amount of money could do to help someone transition from being
unhoused to living and thriving in supported permanent housing.

You can donate two ways:
1) Scan the QR code on the gift card to donate online
2) Remove the tag from the tree and put it with your check made out to
Dignity First in the wrapped box.
We appreciate your contribution to our dignity-centered approach to become
a stronger community through solidarity, not charity. A dignity-centered
approach means that each person who is assisted through our program is
treated with autonomy, given choice wherever possible, and provided
individualized support in their integration to life lived indoors again.

From Pat Blethen: what to do for our Fair in 2020?

I would like to thank the many people who helped us earn additional funds after our breakfast and bake sale. David took the leftover baked goods to work and sold them. A number of people provided handcrafted items to sell at the YMCA craft fair. These included Ellen, Michelle, Cynthia, Ardis, Paula, Christine B. and MaryAnn. If I missed anyone please forgive me, in the future I will write down the names. In addition to my daugher, Paula, MaryAnn and Pete helped with the set up. Paula and David helped to staff our table. David and Pete handled to clean up. All in all it was quite the team effort!

Speaking of craft fairs, I have heard that craft fairs at the Bangor Mall are in the planning for next Nov. If there is interest for St. Patrick’s to try and participate in one of these fair dates, then I’m will to work with others to submit the application. I’m willing to chair the process and help to staff a table. There isn’t much time before the deadline for the application so a decision is needed asap. Please talk to Pat Blethen by no later then 12/18 if you think this is something worth attempting. The vestry meets on 12/19.

Faith Linking in Action

Food Access Committee. Though gardens have been prepared for winter, activities continue. It is evaluation time so they are working on a survey to be distributed to all who participated this year or who had intended to participate. Notice the Holyoke Street Neighborhood Garden is ready for winter too. FAC plans to hold cooking events and workshops to help people learn to stretch the food dollar. Any ideas??? Coffee Hour

Please sign up to host coffee hour. The sign-up sheet is on the Common Room table.

Where does the loose offering in the plate go?  The Outreach Committee would like to remind folks that the loose plate offering on the second Sunday of the month goes into the Outreach fund.   On the third Sunday of the month it goes to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. On other Sundays it goes into the general fund.

Prayer list updates: Larry and Bonnie Puls are the contact people for creating the prayer list.  If you would like to add or delete someone from the prayer list you can add your request in the Common Room or contact the Puls’ at: bonniepuls@aol.com or 942-1321 or find their contact information in the new green directory. A new prayer list has just been prepared for Advent,  but the list can be added to at any time.
