St. Patrick’s Fall Food Fair: Breakfast and Beyond

Please save the date of Saturday, November 23 for the St Patrick’s Fall Food Fair.  The Christmas fair is not happening this year so show your support of the breakfast by Mark and the baked goods and beyond will be much appreciated.  A sign-up sheet will be in Common Room. Fall Retreat sign up

The second annual fall retreat at Fr. Rick’s lovely Bar Harbor home is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 12-13.  Everyone is welcome to come, either overnight or for the day.  The retreat begins at 9:00 AM Saturday and ends after lunch on Sunday and will be led again by Bill Blaine-Wallace. A registration fee of $15.00 will  help to cover food. There are two sign-up sheets for this event:

  • To sign up and let us know you’re coming and when
  • Volunteer to bring a specific food item or two to help defray food costs.(Want to help with food prep? See Christine Talbott for details.)

Saturday night we will be treated to a lobster/burger feed by chef Pete Perry so be sure not to miss this fun meal that is filled with good humor and fellowship. A free will offering beyond the usual registration fee will also be part of this event to help defray costs but is not mandatory. Last year’s event was very exciting. Come and join us!

A Pre-convention hearing to review budgetary items and resolutions is being hosted by St. Patrick’s this Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM. All are welcome to attend with your questions about how our Diocese functions.

How do you get information from the diocese?  How do you use the diocesan website?  Bishop Brown and staff are busy evaluating what works, what doesn’t work in the way that the diocese communicates to all Episcopal churches and members. Your lay representative to Diocesan Council is Christine Talbott who will be participating in a Zoom interview with consultants exploring these issues this Tuesday, October 1. She would love to hear feedback from folks on how you get information from the diocese. A sheet in today’s leaflet has some questions that may help trigger your thoughts on this important topic as we continue this face paced and fast changing electronic world.  Please take a moment and participate in providing the diocese information. “Musical Chairs”

Remember playing this time-honored game at youth group parties? During the past Spring and Summer, you may have felt like you were back in youth group days as seating at St. Pat’s was changed into a variety of arrangements by the worship group. After thoughtful consideration and planning, our traditional straight-line stadium seating was rearranged into a couple of different configurations as an experiment to practice Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous motto, “Form follows function.”

We were asking the question, “How can our worship space encourage and foster a closer relationship with God and one another?” “How can our use of the space help us to grow in our interactions within the faith community?” “And how can our Celtic heritage which uses the Creation Circle symbol, help us reflect as we gather to form a spiritual community?”

Two listening sessions produced helpful feedback for the worship group to use as we plan.  Realizing everyone’s favorite seating plan cannot always exist, we are planning to design worship space seasonally. For instance, during Advent, a traditionally penitential-type season, the altar will be moved back into the chancel and Communion will be served at the altar rail. I ask everyone to be open and patient as we try to make our experience of worship as meaningful as possible.

FAITH LINKING IN ACTION

This Thursday, Oct. 3 is our fall FLIA Convening. Meet at 5:30 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Essex St., Bangor. This gathering will be let by the Food Access Committee. We will discuss and decide personal actions relating to “Food is a Right”. Sign-up in the Common Room for Potluck at 5:30. the meeting will be 6-8.

Transportation for All: The Bangor City Council presented the results of their Transit Study last Monday. There were over 50 TFA supporters there, a wonderful representation of those directly affected by public transportation. Don’t miss the next TFA meeting. So much to discuss and plan relating to this study. 3rd Thursday of each month (Oct. 17) 9am-11am at the Peace and Justice Center, 96 Harlow Street, Bangor. (across the street from the Bangor Public Library)

Childcare Team: Last Wednesday was the presentation of the documentary “No Small Matters”. It was well attended and thank you to all the St. Pat’s folks who donated for the refreshments. The next meeting will be 2nd Monday of the month (Oct. 14) @6:30 at First United Methodist Church, Essex Street, Bangor.

The team will evaluate the film event and plan next steps.

The next Holyoke Street Neighborhood Garden meeting will be Oct. 27 at NOON. By then produce will be finished and it will be time to prepare the garden for winter. In the meantime, PICK, PICK, PICK!

 

 

Where does the loose offering in the plate go?  The Outreach Committee would like to remind folks that the loose plate offering on the second Sunday of the month goes into the Outreach fund.   On the third Sunday of the month it goes to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. On other Sundays it goes into the general fund.

 

Prayer list updates: Larry and Bonnie Puls are the new contact people for creating the prayer list.  If you would like to add or delete someone from the prayer list you can add your request in the Common Room or contact the Puls’ at: bonniepuls@aol.com or 942-1321 or find their contact information in the new green directory.
