Garden plugs along. We will have our next Food Access Committee meeting at St. Pat’s August 9 from 11-1. There will be a Pot Luck and much discussion about harvesting and preserving techniques. There are 7 apartment gardens, 2 church/neighborhood gardens, 1 garden at Food AND Medicine, and the Brewer Community Garden involved in this group. The purpose is of course to provide access to quality food but also to build community involvement and connections as well as encourage environmental friendly habits. Each garden strives to include people in the decision-making process, tending of the garden, and distribution plan. Our Holyoke Street Neighborhood garden is having difficulty finding a good time to meet to make some of these decisions.

The Garden plugs along. We will have our next Food Access Committee meeting at St. Pat’s August 9 from 11-1. There will be a Pot Luck and much discussion planning its next meeting to continue our plans for harvesting and distributing our produce. The progress is slow in the raised beds. We are troubleshooting possible adjustments: watering, adding nutrients? The plants we have in our flower beds and the pumpkins planted in mounds are doing much better. See the “Gardening Crew” schedule on the window outside the Shamrock Room and in the Common Room. If you have questions or want to help please speak to Mary Ann Perry.

Living Local’s Holyoke Neighborhood Garden is almost completely planted!! Yeah!! Step out the door from the Shamrock Room to see the progress. This is a new and very exciting time for St. Patrick’s and our neighbors. You can be a part of this adventure. Weeders, chatters, and meeting attendees are still needed. See the sign-up in the Common Room. Talk to Mary Ann Perry for more details about how you can participate.
